United States Signs Agreements for $59 Million in Bilateral Assistance for Egypt
"These agreements in health; education; trade andinvestment; and science and technology reflect our strong and enduringpartnership with the Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation andour continuing commitment to economic and social inclusion for the Egyptianpeople.” said U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) MissionDirector to Egypt Sherry F. Carlin.
The health agreement builds on USAID’s longstandingsupport for Egypt’s health priorities through the development agency’spartnership with the Ministry of Health and Population. Together, thefocus will be on improving healthy behaviors, enhancing the quality of healthservice, and helping the Government of Egypt guide policy and program design bysupporting research, monitoring, and training in key areas such as voluntaryfamily planning.
Through the higher education agreement, America issupporting Egypt’s priority in aligning the skills of graduates with marketneeds. USAID’s work in this new agreement will also help increase the capacityof Egypt’s higher education institutions to contribute solutions to solveEgypt's development challenges.
The trade and investment agreement facilitates USAID’songoing partnership with the Government of Egypt in creating a businessenvironment in which the private sector can grow and become morecompetitive.This partnership is especially focused on promoting inclusivenessand sustainability for micro, small, and medium sized enterprises by focusingon small businesses that specifically provide jobs for youth and women.
Finally, the science and technology agreement maintainsthe U.S. commitment to joint research between U.S. and Egyptianscientists.USAID’s work in this area addresses development challengesand promotes economic growth, with a focus on applied scientific research andtechnology commercialization.
