Although the 28-year-old completed the full 90 minutes of the game, the injury has gotten worse over the following 24 hours.

The forward has returned back to Liverpool’s Melwood training base to receive treatment but he is expected to miss their crucial clash against Everton on Saturday, April 1.

Lallana could also miss Premier League games against Bournemouth (April 5) and Liverpool’s trip to Stoke City (April 8).

It is a huge blow who are in a tough race for a top four finish this season.

The forward has scored seven goals and also contributed seven assists this season for Liverpool.

As expected, FIFA are expected to pay the over £100,000-per-week wage of the Liverpool forward until he recovers from the injury because of the FIFA club protection programme.
