Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud scored in both halves to hand Arsenal their first home win of the season after a loss against WestHam and the goalless draw against Liverpool.

In the first 20 minutes however, it looked like the goals will not come with Alexis Sanchez hitting the woodwork twice.

The first a header tipped on to the post by Jack Butland, before Walcott stabbed the rebound wide, the second a curler with his right foot after cutting into the penalty box.

Butland also beat out a free-kick from Sanchez while Walcott missed a sitter, heading over from six yards. All this, inside the first 10 minutes.

Arsenal had 29 efforts at goal in the game.

Walcott missed a host of chances before he finally gave Arsenal the lead.

Francis Coquelin won the ball deep in his own half from Joselu and Mesut Ozil received it before laying a  40-yard pass behind Stoke’s central defenders.

Walcott evaded Stoke city defender Marc Muniesa to slot the ball past the onrushing Butlad.

Stoke also had their chances as Joselu and Shaqiri forced saves from Cech Petr.
