Here's how to get the best of school outside the classroom

You go to school for the knowledge and the degree, but there's also much more outside the classroom.

Graduation

1. Maybe try out some socie ties.

Okay, we're not talking about frats and sororities that carry around machetes they'd like to use on other people generously.

It's the more socially acceptable stuff. Now the first thing people want to do most of the time when  they get into Uni is join a society. Which is pretty normal. It's a basic human instinct. So if religious associations are your thing, by all means, join one. Or maybe it's literary clubs. Or special interesting associations, you should join one. On the plus side, many members are more experienced at navigating school life, and will gladly let you in on some tricks. And perhaps, if there's something for you in the Student Unions, then Aluta it is.

2. Getting a side-job won't be a bad idea.

As long as it won't hurt school work though. But be rest assured that there are more reasons than one to get a part time job.

3. Find all the discounts.

Because life is too short to not enjoy a discount every now and then. Whether it's a movie ticket, or an event, or even buying stuff, use all those discounts wherever you find them. The discounts are probably small, but there's this great feeling that comes with enjoying stuff for less.

4. Not every time school book, sometimes other stuff.

Because life doesn't end at your degree to be honest. Your course work will probably help you navigate through school, but find books that will help you navigate through life.

5. But nonetheless, research on your future career path.

And understand what is obtainable please. For example, a course in Religious Studies might not exactly get you a job in an oil company. So learn now and see where your life is headed if you have to choose your course as a career.

6. Research your future career path.

When you leave university, you’ll be thrown into the deep end of the real world. A bit of online research, or a visit to the careers centre may help this feel less scary as you’ll have a rough idea of what to do when you leave and start thinking about a career. Another good way to do this will be to attend career fairs, if your school has any. That way, you can also learn from industry experts. You'll also be able to get help from experts as regards your CV.

7. Relax from time to time.

Take a proper break from school work sometimes. Unwind, because let's face, you can't come and die.
