Police to synergize with security agencies – CP

The Lagos state police commissioner said that the force will collaborate with others in making the election peaceful.

Speaking on Tuesday in Lagos at a training programme for participating security agents ahead of the Sept. 30 by election, Imohimi said the police would collaborate with others in making the election peaceful.

“Adequate security will be provided as protection of lives and property remains our priority.” he said.

Emphasizing the need for inter agency cooperation, Mr Okechukwu Ezeanna, a representative of the Department of State Service (DSS), said that no security agency could do it alone.

“The case of Boko Haram, as bad as it is, brought an advantage. Before then, the level of cooperation among security agencies was low but today, we see ourselves sharing information.“There should be no discrimination among security agents. If I have an information, I should share it with people on ground.

“Let us keep away from the old fashioned it is for me alone; right now it is for all of us. The election is a challenge to us and we must deliver without any hitch.

“The job you are doing is for everyone because if there is a breach from one point, the blame goes to all security agencies.” the DSS official said.

NAN gathered that the training was organized to familiarise security agents participating in the Sept. 30 bye election with the provisions of the 2010 Electoral Act.

It will also discuss standard operational guidelines, rules for police officers on election duties, inter agency cooperation and code of conduct for law enforcement agencies.

Others were use of force and firearms, fundamental human rights, identification and management of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED)s and First Aid.

The training was attended by officials of the police, Federal Road Safety Corps, Army, Air force, Navy, DSS and Civil Defense Corps.
