Mama Taraba steals Buhari’s shine at FEC meeting

Thought Aisha Alhassan would attend today’s FEC meeting with her head bowed in shame? You were completely wrong.

Alhassan has been in the news for declaring her support for former vice president, Atiku Abubakar despite being in Buhari’s cabinet.

The minister not only declared her support for Atiku, she called him “Nigeria’s President come 2019.”

Mama Taraba did not deny those words. In fact, she promised to withdraw her support for President Buhari is he attempts to seek re-election.

Interesting, isn't it?

And if you had thought that Alhassan would attend today’s FEC meeting with her head bowed in shame, you were completely wrong.

Smiling while she exchanged greetings with her colleagues, Alhassan became the centre of attraction at today’s FEC meeting.

These days, when President Buhari presides over FEC meetings, it is news.

The President's absence at the weekly Council meeting – sometimes for the lamest excuse -- makes his presence a thing to celebrate.

Just recently, the Presidency made us understand that there was no part of the constitution stating that the Council must meet on a weekly basis.

Talk about the 1999 Constitution.

Until today, when President Buhari shows up for FEC meetings, he shines for those few minutes or hours.

In groups, a source at the Presidential Villa told that Aso Rock staff discussed Alhassan as she came in for FEC meeting at about 10:35am.

Cameramen and photojournalists also had a busy day trying to capture her every move.

Mama Taraba owned the moment as she moved around Council chambers discussing with her colleagues while laughing at almost every joke until the President walked in at 11am.

Is this her last FEC meeting?

That’s a question only President Buhari can answer.
