2 amazing natural sights in Taraba

Taraba state, one of the less recognized states in Nigeria, was created from the now defunct Gongola state.

The state derived its name from the Taraba River which crosses the southern part of the state, and both the river and the state are rightly called “Nature’s Gift to the Nation.” Endowed with diverse and rich topography, Taraba truly deserves to be called “Nature’s gift to the Nation”.

Check out these two sights you should visit in Taraba state.

1. Mambila Plateau – The plateau which comprises mountain chain of Adamawa, Obudu, Shebshi and Alantika is over 6000 ft. above sea level. It is said that the undulating landscape is free of insects.

The plateau is considered as the highest point in Nigeria and probably in Africa and as soon as you reach the top of the mountain, the hot weather witnessed at the foot of the mountain disappears as you are welcomed to a fresh and very chilled breeze blowing across the plateau.

2. Gashaka-Gumti Game Reserve – This is Nigeria’s largest national park. This area which covers about 6600 sq. km is important not only as a major watershed but also as a haven for a rich and exotic assemblage of wildlife, given its strategic location at the interface between the moist Cameroonian Highland and the dry Sub-Saharan Guinea Savannah.

If you want to see a wild dog or a giant eland, then you should visit the Northern Gumti sector. This reserve parades the largest and richest reserve south of the Sahara. It contains various flora and fauna with varied bird viewing possibilities.
