New study explains why people engage in PDA
You will be very surprised that the biggest, most prominent reason has nothing to do with affection.
From the interpretation, one can easily say that this has to to do with lovers showing the world how much in love they are, and how they can't do without each other, right?
Wrong, actually.
Very wrong, if this new study by the University of Arkansas is to be believed.
In a recently-published study involving college students between the ages of 17-35, researchers asked about the subjects' engagement in PDA and the reasons behind it.
The acts of PDA include holding hands, kissing, fondling of breasts and grabbing of butts, and does not really matter if they were actually seen or not.
37% of men and 32% of women shared that they have gone as far as making out in public; and when asked what the reason was, majority revealed that they wanted “to enhance their image or status by proving they were capable of making out with a particular person in public.”
Another prominent reason the subjects gave was plain lust. Instead of being driven by affection, they confessed to being moved to action by the desire to satisfy a sexual need.
Other reasons ranged from the pure thrill of breaking a taboo and lastly, showing their love and appreciation for their significant/ partner to the world.
