Cultists murder man while pregnant wife attends night vigil

A man who was murdered by suspected cultists has been described by the police as a notorious criminal.

Cultism

She went back home to meet the body of her 30-year-old husband in a pool of his blood after after he was allegedly murdered by cultists, with a deep hole on his chest, lending credence that he was shot at close range.

It was gathered that Afolabi’s murder brought the number of such killings in the town to five in the last few weeks.

Sympathisers, family members and friends of the deceased thronged his Irona residence, were seen wailing and cursing the killers.

Afolabi was said to have retired to bed about 9pm in a house said to be built by his mother, after chatting with some residents in the area. One of the sympathisers, who preferred anonymity, explained that Afolabi was not a member of any cult group but must have had altercations with one of them. Another sympathiser said he may have rebuffed overtures by cult groups to join them

A resident hinted that though he was not a member, he had sympathy for the Eiye Confraternity as he had friends belonging to the group and he must have been killed by a rival gang who made overtures for him to join the.

However, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Alberto Adeyemi, said that the deceased was not as clean as his people say.

“He was a notorious armed robber whom we have been looking for. His family had picked his corpse up for burial as they claimed they could not afford the cost of either autopsy or mortuary. We are doing investigations into the killing,” the police spokesman said.
