The information was disclosed by the Public Relations Officer of the Command, DSP Idirisu Kennedy, on Wednesday, November 2, in Lafia.
Kennedy told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the baby is in the custody of the police.
He said, “We have commenced the investigation to see if we can arrest the mother of the baby, who has committed this ugly and ungodly act."
Kennedy added that the police will be handing over the baby to officials of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for proper care and upbringing.
The Director, Child Development in the ministry, Mrs Yomi Adagazu, said that she along with some of the staff of the ministry rushed to the place where the baby was found by a good samaritan who called the ministry.
NAN reports that a similar case which occurred last month was revealed by Adagazu who said that a baby was found abandoned in a farm Wakwa village.
The director pleaded with parents to pay attention to their children in order to take note of any signs of pregnancy.
Adagazu also advised young girls to seek counsel if they find that they are pregnant instead of carrying the child to term only to dump the newborn.
