Court remands scavenger in prison over alleged perjury

The 39-yr-old suspect has been ordered remanded in Ile-Ife prison custody till June 28, for consideration of his bail.

52-year-old surety bags 2 years for failing to produce accused in court

Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison as he refused him bail.

Ijiyode said that that the accused had previously misled the court and should not go unpunished.

He said the punishment that would mete out to the accused would serve as a deterrent to others.

Ijiyode ordered for his remand in Ile-Ife prison custody till June 28, for consideration of his bail.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Sunday Osanyintuyi, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on June 19 at 10.00 a.m. in Court 11 in Ife Magisterial District Court, Ile-Ife.

Osanyintuyi said that the accused while on oath as a nominal complainant in a case charge No: MIF/279c/2016 gave false testimony in judicial proceedings.

He said that the offence was contrary to Section 117 and punishable under Section 118 of the Criminal Laws of Osun, 2012.

The accused pleaded not guilty to the charge of perjury levelled against him.

The defence counsel,  Mr Ben Adiereje, applied for bail for  the accused in most liberal terms adding that his client would not jump bail.

Adiereje said his client would provide reliable sureties.
