In Bayelsa Armed robbers kill policeman and 23 year-old

The Police in Bayelsa say a policeman attached to the state Command died of gunshot wounds following a gun duel with robbers in Yenagoa on New Year day.

Mr Asinim Butswat, a DSP, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that a five-man robbery gang had attacked and robbed one Evelyn Patrick at Agudama area of Yenagoa on that fateful day shooting dead one Mr Victor Abule, 23, in the process.

He explained that as the robbers tried to escape, they were engaged in a gun duel by a police officer, who shot dead one of them.

"A police officer confronted the armed men and shot dead one of them as they were escaping.

"The officer sustained gunshot wounds and he was rushed to the hospital where he eventually died.

"Efforts have been intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects while investigation into the incident is ongoing.’’
