'Area Boy’ dragged to court for torturing man to death

A social miscreant, popularly called area boy, has been remanded in prison for torturing a man to death.

A 30-year-old 'Area Boy' (miscreant), Abiola Ogunmola, is now languishing in Ikoyi Prisons, after he was remanded for allegedly torturing a 68-year-old man, Alhaji Nasirudeen Ajawesola, to death.

According to the police prosecutor in the case, the accused area boy who resides at No. 7, Adepeju Close, Ketu, led his gang to torture the deceased to death when Ajawesola went to confront them for bullying his son. In the process, Ogunmola and his gang descended on the old man and beat him to death.

The prosecutor told the court in his evidence in chief:

"The late Alhaji's son, a vulcanizer, had invited his father to help him out because he was being bullied for not participating in community work.

Ajawesola, on arrival at the scene, was alleged to have hit the younger brother of Ogunmola with a fetish ring, making him unconscious.

Ogunmola insisted that Ajawesola must revive his brother but when he (Ogunmola) noticed that Ajawesola could not do it, he detained Ajawesola on his own.

Ogunmola and his gang, out of annoyance, took the laws into their hands and tortured the deceased to death."

The Magistrate, E.O. Ogunkanmi of the Ebute-Meta Chief Magistrates’ Court, ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison pending a legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions
