66-yr-old Nigerian pastor murdered in the US

A Nigerian pastor in the United States of America has been shot dead by unknown gunmen who are suspected to be armed robbers.

The murdered Pastor Oluwadayomisi Epenusi

According to Crime Stoppers, the police have launched a manhunt for the killers of the 66-year-old pastor who was shot to death at an apartment complex near 10th street and I-465 on the city’s west side.

Pastor Epenusi was said to have recently moved to Indiana from Nigeria where he worked as a pastor.

Police report that a series of gunshots were heard from the apartment early on Saturday, May 20, 2017.

A neighbour, Kristina Teague who spoke to the police, said a total of 15 gunshots were heard.

Teague said she called 911 after hearing the gunshots but by the time police arrived, the victim had run back to his apartment bleeding seriously and a roommate drove him to the Eskenazi Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

“The roommate said when he was on the way (to the hospital) he asked him what happened and why he got shot, but the man couldn’t say nothing because he was still in pain,” said one Moshood Kafaru, a Nigerian neighbour of the deceased pastor.

“He was just a nice person who would go to work and come home and go to church. He didn’t talk to anybody. He never bothered anybody,” Kafaru added.

Though the police are not sure what the motive for the murder could have been, Kafaru believes the violence may have started as a robbery.

“He was holding a purse. He refused to let it go. They thought he had money in the purse, but he didn’t want to let it go.”

A large group of Nigerians lives in the apartment complex and those that knew Pastor Epenusi said he had been working hard to help his kids to move to the United States.

Concluding, Kafaru said:

“They just got a visa. That why he was working so his family can come over here. He was just an innocent man and it just upsets me that he’s gone just like that. It’s really sad because he was here sending money to his family.”
