The VC in a statement released on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, blamed the situation on the absence of post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination test before the affected students were admitted into the university.

The list of the affected students according to Olayinka was compiled following the “meeting of the University Senate held on March 19 and 20 to deliberate on the 2016/2017 academic results of the final year and non-final year students.”

He said the students did not meet up with the minimum condition approved by the university senate adding that one out of every nine students in 100 level did not meet the minimum condition to retain their studentship.

“It can be observed that students in the science-based disciplines, in particular, did not perform too well, with the pass rate being lowest at 67.5 percent at the faculty of Veterinary Medicine.

''On the other hand, the Humanities-based discipline posted better results, with the best coming from the Faculty of Law at 99.2 percent.”

“The shameful performance on the failure to conduct the annual post-UTME test for students admitted to the University for the 2016/2017 session,” the VC said.

Recall that the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu on Thursday, June 2, 2016, stopped universities from conducting Post-UTME for admission seekers.

The Minister said the Federal Government had confidence in what the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board is doing and that there is no need for any university of polytechnic to organise another exam after UTME.
