If education is the best legacy a nation can bequeath its younger generations, Nigeria is probably not the nation they are talking about.

The state of education in Nigeria is not totally poor but pictures like this only testifies to the poverty of standard Nigerian elementary schools are suffering from.

This picture of a primary school in Nassarawa shows the level of poor education some young Nigerians are receiving in the so-called government schools.

Sodiq Adelakun, a photojournalist took a picture of three primary school pupils standing in a seeming abandoned and dilapidated building.

Unfortunately, that building is the classroom, where the three pupils receive the formal education that is meant to shape their future and make them useful for the society.

Adelakun posted the picture on Instagram with the caption,

"Education: window to their world. Portrait of pupils in a classroom in Gaate Village, Nasarawa State, Nigeria."

The state of education in Nassarawa state is not a fine one. The West Africa Examination Council ranking of the 36 states based on students performance results showed Nassarawa state is not among the best as the state occupies 23rd position for three consecutive years in the ranking from 2015 to 2017.

This shows the stagnant and unimproved level of education in the state.

Moreover, this is not the first time pictures of the unconducive classrooms in Nigerian public schools would surface online.

In July, a world Bank Executive, Jaime Saavedra posted a picture of a Nigerian primary school classroom with 135 pupils.

Saavedra tweeted about the overcrowded classroom:

135 students in one secondary classroom. And it is not an anecdote.  Will continue working with the Nigerian government to change this.

Many other pictures of Nigerian primary schools are in this state and we are yet to see government taking any steps to address the situation.
