A nursing student at Pennsylvania University, Jennifer Burbella, has sued the institution for allowing her to fail a required course twice.
Student sues university for letting her fail course twice, demands N15m damages
An undergraduate student wants 15 million naira as damages from her university, claiming her lecturer's failure to help made her depressed and led to her failing the same course twice.
She wants N14928750 million ($75,000USD) as damages.
Burbella claims that anxiety and depression made her lose concentration and the lecturer handling the adult health patterns class did not do enough to help her.
The student said, though the professor gave her a distraction-free environment and extra time for her final exam, he did not respond to her telephoned questions as he promised.
According to her, that lack of help caused her breakdown, hence her failure, especially after the university 'forced' her to repeat the course.
She also claims that the professor gave better treatment to a disabled student, an act which she claims is a violation of a federal disability discrimination law.
