Former lesbian leaves gay lifestyle after powerful encounter with God

Check out this beautiful testimony of how a Bible study caused one woman to abandon her past and embrace a new identity in God.

The lady named Emily Thomes was only able to have this mindblowing change after an encounter with the Heavenly Father.

In her words, this change led her from being lost to being saved.

Now, she is a Christian speaker and blogger, who is sharing her incredible story in a recent video for Anchored North.

Her lesbian origin story

Thomes’ “super wild” lifestyle with other women started at the young age of 15.

According to her, her first romantic relationship with a girl at 15 years old was “was my first time ever dating someone.”

She continued having affairs with women with the belief that God would accept her relationship.

At the time, she said she twisted the scriptures to suit her lifestyle and thought “Judge not. God being love meant God was nice and God was chill with what you were cool with.

“If you were truly a Christian, you were on my side. If not, you were legalistic and needed to reread what God was really about.

“By 18, 19, 20 I was super wild and in serial relationships with women.”

Eventually, Thomes got engaged to a woman with two children.

From lesbian to Christian

Everything changed for her after she got invited to a Bible study. This happened when she was 22 years old.

There, she expected criticism but got something different that frustrated her. That frustration led to researching Bible verses online.

In her words, “I expected them to bring up my lifestyle really early, and use that as justification for not coming back, so I agreed to go."

“Different women in that circle were talking about different experiences they had. I have nothing like that, and it bugged me. I could not stop thinking, ‘what if all of that’s true?’

“‘Are you sure this is who you are?’ I couldn’t stop questioning. I need to feel OK. Because I don’t feel OK anymore.”

At first, her google search led her to 1 Corinthians 6: 9–10 which scared her. In her words: “Those who practice homosexuality, which was me, and also drunkards and a bunch of other things that I would’ve been, I realized that I was in the ‘will I enter the Kingdom of God?’ lineup and it scared me really really bad.

“And then I read verse 11,” she said in reference to 1 Corinthians 6:11. “And it says, ‘And such were some of you, but you are washed, you are sanctified, you are justified.’”

Thomes’ moment of truth

She says this verse opened her eyes to the truth about God’s boundless love and mercy. She knew had to change, leave her sinful ways and embrace God.

In her words, “I could hold on to my sin and reject God, or I could turn to Him. All the debt that I’d wracked up living like I lived didn’t have to be mine if I could trust Him. So that was it.

“I knew what I wasn’t going to do because it was right there, it was black and white. I’d twisted those Scriptures before, I’d argued them down, I’d say ‘judge not’ to them like that mattered, and then that day it was like my eyes were really opened. I was amazed at the grace He’d shown me.”

Advice to other gay people

Now, Thomes is encouraging others including those who claim that they were “born this way” to take advantage of the grace that she has been given.

In her words, “It’s not gay to straight. It’s lost to saved. God calls us not to heterosexuality but holiness.”

Reactions to Thomes’ lost to saved story

Her video was shared on Facebook on December 28, 2017. Since then, it has gotten 1.7M views, almost 9k likes, and 1.4k comments.

One person writes, “So many people, no matter their lifestyle, believe as you did before, “If God is love, then He’s chill with whatever I do and whomever I love.” Even many churches preach this! I’m so proud of you for speaking against that lie.”

Another says, “ Wow! Truth revealed and what courage this young lady has to speak the truth at this time in history.”

Not everyone feels this way. Thomes has been severely criticised by people who feel like her comments could be harmful to homosexuals.

One commenter writes, “This little video is enough to push gay kids over the edge to suicide. If God changed her, why didn’t the prayers of my daughter count? So so wrong.

“I’m willing to bet good money that she is on the bisexual spectrum, or else she is really doing an injustice being in a relationship with that young man. Let me tell anyone who is gay and watching this video that God created you just exactly as you are and “he saw that it was good.” You are loved and precious.

Another writes, “ This video is such bs. I wish we could put the Christ back in Christians and let them worry about their own lives instead of trying to force others to conform to their false, cherry-picked bible.”

“This is heartbreaking. This is a story of how a beautiful, happy lesbian went to bible study and became brainwashed. This isn’t lost to saved, this is free to trapped.”

In spite of the criticism, this remains an extremely very powerful testimony that reminds us that God can do everything, including what we thought was impossible.
