Online education: A beautiful opportunity

Online Education

As a child, I loved and admired my teacher . I dreamed of becoming a teacher too. This desire was so overwhelming that I religiously “taught” all the dolls and teddy bears in the house ( they were my pupils ), with the use of my blackboard and chalk, daily without fail. I didn’t have time to play any other game.

When I became a teenager, I obviously couldn’t continue “teaching” inanimate objects , so I “graduated” to teaching my younger cousins. Teachers in the 70’s are nothing like the teachers that we have now. The saying “the teacher’s reward is in heaven “ , was real..i mean the struggle was so real, LOL!

So my mother was not even going to hear about the idea of going to university to study education, I was to study a “professional” course ( whatever that means!). This is why I ended up with a BPharm in 1991.

Nevertheless, purpose will always try to find expression. I became a Sunday school teacher while studying pharmacy, I felt that was the only avenue opened to me for expression at that point in time.

A few years as a pharmacist and I knew that I was in the wrong profession . Don’t get me wrong, being a pharmacist had great advantage for me ,in the community and drug information was priceless, However , the feeling you get when you are wearing a beautiful pair of shoes that are not the right size…I really wanted to be a teacher.

By this time, I was married with children , so the idea of going back to school was quite challenging. In the year 2005, I came across some online courses and I enrolled for a diploma in Child Psychology. 12 years and 3 online courses later, I am graduating from the university of London with a Master of Arts degree in Education.

Finally I am not just wearing a beautiful pair of shoes; I am wearing shoes that fit.

Online Education made this possible. I could work, take care of my home and family, and study at my own pace. What a beautiful opportunity.

P.S. there are courses, hundreds of thousands of them online that we can take for free (Google am !) No excuses, we can all get an education.
