Driven by an independent and apolitical community, #LN50Years is a one-day event aimed at commemorating the 50th anniversary of the creation of Lagos as a State, the home to the most diverse cross section of people in Africa.

The aim of the event is to celebrate and promote the preservation of ‘Essential Lagos’ now and into the future. The greatness of our heritage is worthy of celebration but not just the last fifty years.  The yearning of the youth and mature alike is promoting and preserving the future of Lagos with an articulated look and foray into: Lagos The Next Fifty Years.

‘Essential Lagos’ as the theme of the event underscores the importance of promoting the values, culture and heritage of Lagos State including religious harmony and peaceful co-existence. The event will celebrate not only the inclusion and diversity of Lagos but also its identity and roots.

Some of the event highlights include:

The Atlas of Lagos Food: a menu featuring a plethora of indigenous Lagos food, such as Gurudi, Coconut Candy, Yor- Yor, Akan EMoyo, Garri and Palm oil mixture, White Rice with Fresh Fish, etc.

The Talent Factory: recognising notable talents that have come out of Lagos as well as live musical performances to take guests through music that has shaped the Lagos party scene over the last fifty years.

Building Lagos: The Future Landscape, Arts and Architecture, with notable speakers, such as Omoyemi Akerele - Founder, Lagos Fashion and Design Week, Tofarati Agusto - CEO, WSTC and IBFC-Agusto, Tosin Oshinowo - Principal Architect, CMDesign Atelier and Seni Sulyman - Country Director, Andela also feature on the event line-up.

A juxtaposition of videos from the Past  and future with excerpts of interviews by , discussing the future of Lagos.

Lagos The Next Fifty Years will hold at 12noon on Thursday, 18th May 2017 at Lagos City Hall, Catholic Mission Street, Lagos.
