FIFA has confirmed that the finals of the World Cup will be played December 18, on the day of the country's National Day.

FIFA spokesman, Walter De Gregorio, on Thursday said its a "major step" and progress can finally be made as regards the timetable of the tournament.

The World Cup is planned to be played in a 28-day period, which would limit the time clubs would have to release their players on International duty.
The timetable for the tournament will be released on Fridat.
