Following ominous meetings convened to address illegal deductions and non-payment of promotion arrears amongst other complaints, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Ibadan (UI) Chapter, have finally embarked on a  week long warning strike due to fragmented payment of salaries, unrecognized pension deductions and non-payment of supervision allowance.

The Congress convoked by the union, was presided by its chairman, Deji Omole. Buttressing earlier mentioned factors resulting in the strike action, members of the union further voiced their grievances regarding conspicuous deductions in their basic salaries, especially in the month of March.

The Institution's management was further accused of failing to release explicit statements as regards the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Reiterating Mr. Omole, in bid to bring the University management to address the issues riddling the welfare of  members of ASUU, UI,  the warning strike is embarked upon.

Mr Omole said:

“The congress of ASUU, UNIBADAN, at its meeting of 4th April, 2017, having received permission from the national body of the union, hereby, declare a one-week warning strike.“The warning strike will commence from 12:01 midnight of Tuesday, 4th April, to 12:00 midnight of Tuesday, 11th April, 2017.“The congress of the union maintains that the failure of the university administration to satisfactorily resolve all the issues, will force the union to proceed on a comprehensive and total strike,”.

The congress which was impressively attended, also graced the presence of national delegates of ASUU, such as Bebe Sese from Port Harcourt, Tony Monye-Emina from Benin, Mahmood Lawan from Kano.

Preceding this latest strike action, the non-academic staff unions of the University have been on strike since the 13 of March, disrupting smooth flow of lectures and even grounding automobile movements on campus.

It was also gathered that the University management has been owing ASUU since 2010.
