A gunman who shot and injured three students in the library of a Florida State University (FSU) campus has died in a shootout with police.
The gunman had in a Thursday morning attack opened fire in the library where nearly 400 students were studying for exams.
According to The Guardian a report quoting the Tallahassee police spokesman, David Northway, the gunman fired at a police officer who responded to an emergency call.
The police returned fire, fatally wounding him.
FSU campus Police chief, David Perry said there were many students in the library at the time of the attack.
“This person for whatever reason produced a handgun and then began shooting students in the library,” Perry said.

“Everyone wants to know why, and that’s the hard question we are going to continue to investigate,” DeLeo said.
Cases of campus shootings are common in the United States.
In October, a teenage student of the, United States, Jaylen Ray Fryberg, on Friday committed suicide after shooting six students in the school cafeteria.
