Remo Stars returned to the summit of the Nigeria Professional Football League 2021/22 season with a win over rivals Shooting Stars on Sunday. Skipper Nduka Junior distinguished himself on the day by scoring the winner via an excellent free-kick.

 Former Sunshine goalie Ojo Olorunleke had a decent outing against his former side in Ijebu Ode as Enyimba picked up the only away win of the weekend, while Ahmadu Liman had an excellent game for Niger Tornadoes against Katsina United in Abuja.

Formation - 4-3-3

GOALKEEPER

Ojo Olorunleke (Enyimba): The goalkeeper was handed a start away from home and he distinguished himself in the encounter by denying the hosts on multiple occasions before the end of the encounter.

DEFENDERS

Unwana Asuquo (Dakkada): The right-full back had a fine game against Kano Pillars in Uyo. His combinations down the line was good and his well struck free-kick led to the goal in the end.

Nduka Junior (Remo Stars): Vintage performance from the skipper. He was commanding in his own box and helped initiate multiple attacks in the feisty game. Ultimately, he scored the winner via a sublime free-kick.

Olawale Doyeni (Enugu Rangers): Good defensive display from the former Dakkada man to help his side claim another point on the road.

Faisal Sani (Katsina United): He was his side’s brightest player on the pitch. Despite the defeat, he still managed to make his mark with a goal.

MIDFIELDERS

Kabir Balogun (Kwara United): He was his usual self and was creating chances for his side in a game they should have won by more than a goal.

Seth Mayi (Akwa United): The central midfielder had a decent performance for the defending champions. He helped open up the hosts defence on multiple times with his intricate passes.

Ahmadu Liman (Niger Tornadoes): The midfielder scored a wonderful opener to set his side on their path of winning once again in the league. He was decisive in the fixture as well.

FORWARDS

Akila Jesse (Plateau United): Rivers United’s unbeaten got stopped courtesy of his goal. He missed his chance from the spot earlier but made amends to help his side secure a win over the Pride of Rivers in Jos.

Samad Kadiri (Kwara United): The striker came off the bench to net a decisive goal once again. With the North Central derby deadlocked, the former Enyimba man stepped up and tuck home the winner for Abdullahi Biffo’s men in Ilorin.

 Musa Bashiru (Dakkada): The forward’s late goal ensured the Chosens return to Uyo with a win. It was the Uyo side’s first win in six games.

COACH OF THE WEEK

Finidi George (Enyimba):

He led his side to their second win away from home in his debut campaign in the NPFL. Quite a statement from him and his boys.
