Messi and Ronaldo who have dominated the last six Ballon d’Or awards are frontrunners for the 2016 edition.

Ronaldo is considered favourite following his double European title win with Real Madrid and Portugal.

Neymar, however, believes that his teammate Messi should get the award.

“I don't know who will win, for me, there is only one who's the best, that's Messi,” Neymar told , as reported by .

“Ronaldo is a great player, he's world class and has been for many years and I respect him.

“But Messi is the one who deserves it, for me.”

In the year under review, Messi won the La Liga and Copa del Rey title with Barcelona.

The 29-year-old was not lucky with his national team, losing the 2016 Copa America final with Argentina to Chile.

He has 20 goals in all competitions so far this season for Barcelona.
