Rio Ferdinand Lashes Mikel For Being Too Cautious
Mikel didn't have a bad day against Iran, but he sure did not have a good day either.
Like the very usual Mikel known to many, he was careful not to make mistakes with the balls and attck but his meticulous play may not be the expected performance of a player hiscalibre and profile.
Former Manchester and England captain, Rio Ferdinand has lashed out on the Chelsea defensive midfielder, calling him a 'frustrating' player.
Ferdinand who was on the coverage of BBC’s Match of the Day said that watchin John Obi Mikel is like asking to be ''frustrated''. The 35 year-old Ferdinand questioned Mikel’s plays and technical interpretations on the pitch, the use of his natural talents, the slowness and cautious nature of his passing and style.
“He frustrates me sometimes, when I watch him,'' Ferdinand stated emphatically.
“He gets opportunities to drive, he’s a big powerful lad and he can drive forward and cause problems and draw a defender out and then play the ball in behind him and then take him out of him out of the game.
“But he seems to be content at just passing the ball sideways and keeping it ticking, which for me – as a defender – is easy to defend against. He’s not causing you any problems,” Ferdinand boldly added.
Everyone agrees that the game against Iran wasn't the best the Eagles can offer. Reactions and suggestions have followed the result of the game and it is only left for the team to mobilize the defence and the attack against a free firing Bosnian team come Saturday June 21.
