Ajayi was part of the 28 players invited by Gernot Rohr for the March friendlies against Poland and Serbia.
The 22-year-old did not feature in the 1-0 victory against Poland but made his debut for the Super Eagles in the 2-0 defeat to Serbia when he was introduced in place of Arsenal star Alex Iwobi in the 88th minute.
After his debut for Nigeria’s senior football team, Ajayi posted on his official Twitter account to celebrate with a message that said, “A Super Eagle got his debut last night. It was a gallant feeling. Thanks a lot #CoachRohr. We will win our subsequent games for sure.”
In a report by , Ajayi revealed that it was a dream to play for the Eagles, but admitted that he is targeting more call-ups to the national team.
He said, “It was a dream come true but I wished I had more time but I will work hard to get another chance to play more,”
Like Skipper Mikel Obi, Ajayi also stated that there were positives to take from the friendly matches despite a defeat in the least match.
He said, “There are more friendly games to be played before the World Cup and I hope to get another chance. The result was not what we wanted but there are positives to be learnt from it.”
Egyptian Premier League has departed the Super Eagles camp and is expected to be in action for Al Ahly when they face Tanta SC on Monday, April 2.
