Gary Neville hails Arsenal midfielder for anti-Spurs chant

Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville has hailed Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere for his chant aimed at rivals Tottenham following last season's FA Cup victory.

During the Arsenal open bus parade in May, Wilshere took to the microphone to lead the fans in an anti-Spurs chant.

"What do we think of Tottenham?" he sings with fans responding "'s***".

"And what do we think of s***?'" "Tottenham," the fans replied.

Wilshere was later fined £40,000 by the FA with severe warning about his future behaviour but pundit Neville says he loved the passion displayed by the home grown Arsenal midfielder.

"When Jack Wilshere swore on a bus ride, I actually thought it was one of the best things I've seen from a football player in the past five or 10 years,' Neville said in an interview with Sport magazine.

"If I was a manager of players that all had that passion... Alright, they'd obviously been out the night before. But the reality of it is we cry out for players to have passion, and yet we are quite critical of them when they display passion."

In the interview which is featured in the 412 issue of Sports Magazine, Neville also spoke about the high transfer fees of players these days.

On if Raheem Sterling is worth £50m following his move to Manchester City, Neville who is also an assistant coach in the England national team said: "If you asked me: "Is any player worth £50m?" I'd say no. But the reality of it is every player is worth what someone is willing to pay.

"Is anything worth anything? The whole world has gone mad - football has seen the greatest increase (in terms of perceiveed value of everything) that people are aware of, but people never complain about motor racing or baseball or basketball, tennis, golf. But football, maybe because it's seen as a working-class sport..."
