10 dead, 2 injured in suicide bomb attack

The incident occurred on Friday, February 20, at a hotel near the presidential palace in the capital, Mogadishu.

10 people have been confirmed dead in Somalia after a double suicide bomb attack on a hotel.

One attacker slammed his explosive-laden vehicle into the gate of the hotel while the other blew himself up inside, Captain Mohammed Hussein told The Associated Press.

“So far we have confirmed six people dead, including soldiers and civilians. The death toll is sure to rise,” police captain, Farah Abdullahi toldReuters.

Police Major, Nur Mohamed however saidthat at least 10 people had died in the attack.

Among the wounded were Deputy Prime Minister, Mohamed Omar Arte, who has been taken to a hospital, and Transport Minister Ali Ahmed Jamac.

The attack has since been claimed by terrorist group, Al-Shabab via its radio station, Andulus.
