Hat-trick for Tosin Aiyegun as Zurich put too much on the plate of Servette
Zurich find themselves bottom of the Switzerland super league, seven points from safety and having to face off against a side that currently occupies a UEFA champions league playoff spot in second placed Servette.
Hosting one of the better sides in the league this season at the Letzigrund, Zurich needed a superman type performance like the one from Tosin to grab any sort of victory in front of their home fans. The first of such heroism came in the 31st minute after he was put through on goal by strike partner Jonathan Okita.
The lead became two in the 50th minute as 26 year old Croatian centre-back Nikola Katic found the Net farthest from his posting.
Tosin made sure his teams’ three points were not in doubt as he completed a second half brace with goals coming in the 62nd and 86th minute of the game.
Miroslav Stevanovic made sure the visiting fans had something to mark their presence as he grabbed a late consolatory goal on the 88th-minute mark, it was a little too late to inspire any sort of comeback from the away team despite their dominance late in the game.
Tosin's hat-trick seals win for Zurich
The Nigerian-born striker who now represents his maternal country Benin republic on the international level latched on to a pass from his strike partner in a well-taken goal to put his side ahead, before getting on the end of a well-weighted ball from winger Nikola Boranijasevic for his second, bettering his season tally in just 62 minutes.
The third came against adefenceServette defence as he finished an assist from the 21-year-old Swiss midfielder Bledian Krasniqi to complete a well-earned hat-trick, and not for the first time in his career at the Swiss-based club.
This result cuts down the deficit and puts safety in reaching distance at only four points. If Tosin continues in this form, there is hope for the defending champions.
