Arsenal got a huge 2-0 win away against AC Milan, Marseille recorded a 3-1 win at home against Athletic Bilbao 3-1  while Atlético Madrid made light work of Lokomotiv Moscow in some of the fixtures.

These are five things we learnt this week.

1. Arsenal turn on in style

With the Europa League title their only way back to the Champions League, Arsenal turned on from their recent poor form to beat AC Milan 2-0 on Thursday.

It was a huge shock considering that Arsenal came into the game on the back of a four-match losing streak while AC Milan were unbeaten in 13 games.

Against AC Milan, Arsenal showed their class, dominating the game at San Siro to take a huge advantage ahead of the second leg at home.

2. Gattuso stunned

After a slow start as coach of AC Milan, Gennaro Gattuso had gradually gotten the Italian giants back on track and they were on a run of 13 games consecutive games unbeaten before the Europa League clash against Arsenal.

AC Milan under Gattuso under AC Milan have been stronger and fitter which has helped them to get on form. But against Arsenal, they were stunned by the technical and passing abilities of the visitors.

Gattuso's men couldn’t cope against Arsenal who played circles around them.

3. Dimitri Payet still has it

Dimitri Payet was a delight to Premier League enthusiasts at West Ham before his move to Marseille about a year ago but he hasn’t had the same impact in France partly due to a series of injuries.

But in recent weeks, the forward has improved and against Athletic Bilbao, the 30-year-old was impressive, scoring one and making another goal as Marseille beat their visitors 3-1.

Payet’s class was evident throughout the game reminding everyone that he’s the man he was at West Ham.

4. Atletico Madrid are favourites

Out of the ChampionsLeague and Copa del Rey and eight points off Barcelona in the race for La Liga, the Europa League remains the only possible trophy for Atletico Madrid this season. Against Lokomotiv Moscow, they proved their European pedigree with a 3-0 home win.

Diego Simeone led Atletico Madrid to Europa League title in 2012 and to the final of the Champions League twice in the last four years.

There are clear favourites for the title this season.

5. Mesut Ozil and Mkhitaryan show class

On their big night, Arsenal needed their star men to deliver and fortunately, Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan turned up.

Ozil made Arsenal’s both goal of the night, making it 100 goals he has been directly involved since he joined Arsenal in 2013.

Mkhitaryan was up for it from the first minute and later got his deserved goal, his first for Arsenal. That was also in first Europa League goal since he scored for Manchester United in the final last season. He loves this competition.
