The
Etoile's coach, Faouzi Benzarti and player, Ahmed Akaichi were also handed four-match bans.
The duo was given a four-match ban for using offensive language and hurling insults towards the referee in the first leg in Port Harcourt against Enyimba.
This punishment was announced in a statement by Africa's football ruling body, CAF, yesterday after it's disciplinary committee handed out punishments to players, coaches and federations who erred in the various CAF competitions in the last three months.
After the second leg of the tie, the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) and Enyimba lodged a strong protest to CAF over the conduct of Etoile du Sahel’s supporters in Sousse in their Champions League qualification tie on Wednesday April, 20.
According to media officer of the Enyimba FC, Farriel A. the players and officials were treated badly by Etoile du Sahel during the second leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary game in Tunisia on Wednesday, April 20.
“In all my years as an official of Enyimba, I have never experienced such lows and extreme highs from one game,” he wrote on Twitter.
He went on to explain how referee was not allowed into his dressing room during half time, how he was prevented from using his tablet, phone and camera.
Enyimba players were also stoned by Tunisian fans ahead of the game which they won after a penalty shoot-ou.
The club also claimed that that their team bus was pulled off at the last minute before the game forcing the players use taxis.
During the penalty shoot-out, lasers were used on Enyimba goalkeeper and players to distract them.
It is however unclear if CAF has responded to the complaints of Enyimba and NFF over the several incidents of the second leg in Tunisia.
