There is also defiance from some institutions who have gone ahead to close down the school till after the elections. Many institutions have had their examinations postponed till after exams.

There have been mixed feelings from different stakeholders in tertiary institutions as regards the government's decision of the closure of schools.

Some have said the government was being insensitive by not taking time to consult with the students and accused the Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, of not seeking the opinion of the stakeholders involved. Others have said it is a step in the right direction for security reasons.

Most parents who spoke on the issue said they would rather have their children in the safety of their homes than leaving them vulnerable to attacks.
