Nigerian music was the biggest winner of reality show
For most Nigerians, all that matters is that the Efe Ejeba won the 2017 edition of Big Brother Nigeria.
It’s a great TV show, which successfully united Nigerians along the lines of the daily human struggle and the triumph of the popular candidate. The people chose a winner, and that in itself is powerful.
Lasting for a duration of 11 weeks, nobody can deny that the entire show was a huge success for everyone involved. The organizers made money, the sponsors gained brand awareness and conversion, the contestants gained valuable recognition and publicity upon which they can build on, and the eventual winner has money in the bag, plus a few other endorsements and rewards.
And while the main show was about human interaction, all of it was made possible via the inclusion of Nigerian music. Music held Big Brother Nigeria from the start. It serves its purpose as a great unifier of Nigeria, and an integral part of our national heritage. And on the show, it was utilized from the start.
The show got off to a musical start when K9 dropped the theme song ‘See Gobbe’. And it guided the show as the soundtrack to all of that engaging and immersive drama.
Friday night parties were the bomb. All through the weeks, the housemates and viewers had one event they all looked forward to; The set played by the visiting DJ who set up the music for the mood. DJ Consequence, DJ Neptune,DJ Xclusive, DJ Lambo, and a few others showed up each week to supply music for everyone, which made the show more interesting, and revealed more details about the characters of the contestants. TBoss almost never danced, and that formed an important manifestation of her personality.
And then there were performances. Every Sunday, the live shows were not complete without slected artists delivering a performance, and getting reviews on social media. Yemi Alade, Davido, Flavour, Simi and a few others were hailed for their great showmanship on their nights. But others brought ridicule upon themselves. Ex-Big Brother Africa housemate, Tayo Faniran was trolled to an inch of his life when he took to the stage and had a poor performance. But in the finale, 2face Idibia and Tiwa Savage displayed excellence onstage.
Another great inclusion of music was visiting time – a  also another fan favorite. And apart from Mr Ibu who was comedic, the other notable visits to the House were Don Jazzy and Davido. The Mavin Records man had a jqm session with the housemates, made them sing through their talents and dropped advisory gems for the hopefuls.
The ultimate inclusion of music was the music video of the theme song performed by the housemates. TBoss played the central love interest, Debie Rise, Bassey, Coco Ice, Efe, Bisola and DNA made the song theirs, shooting a visual in the house.
In the end, Efe, an upcoming rapper won the show, and took home the prize money. Music did not only influence the show from the start, but contributed every step of the way to make it a success. Everyone was a winner at Big Brother Nigeria 2017, but music was the biggest winner of the show.
