Ayew converted a penalty in the 32 minute to give Ghana the winning goal in over Mali in their first game of AFCON 2017.

The West Ham winger now has seven goals in AFCON, one more than what his dad, Pele scored for the Black Stars of Ghana.

Pele, former Captain of the Black Stars is one of Africa’s most decorated and honoured footballers in history.

As a 17-year-old he helped Ghana win the AFCON in 1982 and played in five more editions (1984, 1992, 1994, 1996 and 1998).

For Ayew, this is his fifth AFCON tournament, having played in the 2008, 2010, 2012 and 2015 editions.

He finished as the highest goal scorer of the 2015 AFCON as Ghana lost in the final to cote d'Ivoire.
