World football governing body
The Super Eagles and other teams under the NFF are facing a ban following FIFA’s ultimatum to Nigeria’s football body to resolve their leadership crisis and hand over office to Amaju Pinnick and Mohammed Sanusi before Monday, August 20.
Dalung has been one of the main actors in the current crisis in the NFF as he keeps backing self-imposed leader Chris Giwa.
Dalung had on Wednesday, August 15 written to FIFA to request for a meeting with president Gianni Infantino.
According to , the letter was sent through the office of the Nigerian Ambassador to Switzerland.
The Minister had also intended to travel to Switzerland with a 17-man delegation which included FIFA recognised NFF boss Pinnick and faction leader Giwa.
FIFA however in a letter signed by Secretary General Fatma Samoura rejected Dalung’s request and point out that Giwa is still under a worldwide ban.
“Moreover, we would like to recall that one member of the proposed delegation, Mr Chris Giwa, is currently under a worldwide ban, in accordance with the decision of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee dated 10 January 2017 to extend the five—year ban from taking part in any kind of football-related activity imposed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Disciplinary Committee on 12 May 2016,” FIFA also said in the letter.
FIFA also directed Dalung to channel all his communication to FIFA through the NFF, which remains the world football body’s only recognised channel.
“This is not about a faction of an NFF leadership. It is an issue of the decision of the Nigerian court Vs an International statute. The truth cannot be overturned, “ Dalung said through his personal assistant on Thursday, August 2018.
