EC chair says she was stunned by NHIS 'voters'

The Supreme Court on July 5, 2016, ordered the Commission to delete names of NHIS registrants, following a ruling in 2014, where the use of the NHIS card was declared illegal to register as a Ghanaian voter.

The court’s order followed a suit filed by former National Youth Organizer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Abu Ramadan, and one Evans Nimako.

Subsequently, the EC gave the opportunity to the affected voters to re-register. The EC set aside ten days for this exercise. It later extended the process by seven days because over half the deleted voters failed to re-register.

However, Charlotte Osei also added that the names of some of these registrants might still be on the register.

Mrs Osei said.

She explained that they had contact their over 200 district offices to provide them with the list because the information was not in their central database.
