Omawumi, Jimmy Jatt, others discuss how artistes should use social media

On the day 3 of the Social Media Week Lagos, Nigerian music personalities discuss the advantages of social media on the industry

Nigerian singer, OmawumiMegbele and veteran Disc Jockey, Jimmy Jatt were present at one of the sessions of the on-going Social Media Week Lagos 2015.

The duo was panelists on session themed, #SMWMusicDay: So You Are a Social Media Superstar...What Next? And were joined by blogger, Noble Igwe and Strategic Partner Manager, YouTube Nigeria, Google, Lanre Aina.

The panelists discussed how artistes should maximise social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram to push their arts.

Lanre Aina advised artistes take advantage of the new trend to push their arts because it’s cheap and affordable.

“Social media is the cheapest form of publicity if you have talent, so artistes should jump on it and use it,” he said.

Lanre also counselled artistes to try and link their fans on social media with fans on the real world.

Omawumi was however more sceptical about social media and revealed that the bad sides can also be detrimental to your career.

The ‘Bottom Belle’ singer also advised artiste to get a social media manager so as not to make mistakes with it.

“Artistes should get a social media manager to avoid mistakes,” the singer said.

Respected DJ Jimmy Jatt said being big on social media platforms is not enough if you don’t have talent, not hardworking or without good product.
