Sokoto to administer preventive malaria drugs to 1.8m kids - Governor

The governor said his administration would pay more attention to human resources development and equipping of healthcare facilities.

The Sokoto State Government is set to administer malaria drugs to 1.8 million children in the state to prevent them from being infected by it.

Gov. Aminu Tambuwal said this Monday when he inaugurated a house-to-house campaign for the administration of malaria preventive drugs to an estimated 1.8 million kids.

Tambuwal speaking at Isa, headquarters of Isa Local Government Area of the state said, "Government has adopted many strategies in solving the menace of malaria and other health related diseases.’’

According to him, these will include capacity building for the medical personnel, provision of health care facilities and provision of essential drugs among others.

It would also provide medicament for effective and efficient services to the people at the grassroots.

He added: "The ongoing upgrading and renovation of health facilities at Yabo, Dogon Daji, Silame and Illela will soon be completed.’’

The governor who urged local government councils to give maximum support and cooperation to the programme, commended development partners for their contributions.

Tambuwal also commended the Sultanate Council for its effort in mobilising for the programme.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Balarabe Kakale, said that the ministry in collaboration with Malaria Consortium and other agencies had trained health personnel to attend to children aged from three months to 59 months.
