Governor gives N500,000 each to 18 families to mark 1 year in office

The cash gifts were given to families of pilgrims from the state who died in the 2015 Hajj stampede in Saudi Arabia.

The Governor promised the people of Sokoto state, that he will fulfill his campaign promises and deliver the dividends of democracy.

The Deputy Governor of the state said the money cannot replace the lives lost, but also called on the family members to bear the loss.

He also revealed that 138 pilgrims from the state died during the sad event, adding that the whereabouts of 22 others have also not been ascertained.

More than 700 pilgrims were killed in the 2015 Hajj stampede, which many observers say is the deadliest since 2006.

Special prayer were held in Sokoto in Friday, October 2, 2015,for victims of the Hajj stampede in Saudi Arabia.

The prayer was jointly organised by the Sultanate Council of Sokoto and the Sokoto State Government.
