A guide to planning a wild adventure to Jos Wildlife Park

The Jos Wildlife Park is home to species of monkeys, bird, lions, reptiles and a host of others.

Open Hours: Mondays to Saturdays, 9:00am-5:00pm

Tour fee: N200 per person

Things to take with you: A camera, cash, sunglasses, drinking water and comfortable hiking shoes.

Built by the Federal Ministry of Culture and Toursim in 1972, the Jos Wildlife Park is one of the top attractions in Plateau state. The park is a conservation centre and zoological garden, known for its diversity of animals and species which range from elephants to lions and to monkeys. Experience the Jos Wildlife Park whenever you're in town!

When is the best time to visit?

You can visit the zoo at any time. However, it is important to bear in mind that the rainy season in Plateau, Nigeria and the dry season typically lasts from December to March. Due to its location above sea level, Jos is usually very cold, with temperatures averaging 28 degrees Celcius at daytime and 23 degrees Celcius at night. It can also get very sunny and dry.

How to get to the park

The Jos wild life park on Miango road close to the Federal low-cost housing estate, not at all far from the city centre. If you are not in Jos and would like to visit, the closes main city to Jos is Abuja. You can get a N1500 vehicle that will take you from Abuja to Jos in 4 hours. However, the many checkpoints along the way will set you back by a little over an hour.
