ICYMI: The eccentric Ghanaian street art festival transcends languages

The annual Ghanaian street art festival is about rejuvenating spaces with art. This years version was no different. Heres how Chale Wote 2018 went down.

This year's festival, as usual, drew people and artists from around the world to come and witness Accra in its prime form.

It held between August 20-26 around the theme "Para-other" — a transatlantic shortwave that transcends language and geography. The organizers of the festival, Accra Alt Radio, break it further down as: "Para-Other requires new knowledge fractals, codes, symbols, and sounds that transmit our core creative intent where imperial languages fail us. This order is an embracing of a black labyrinth and establishment of an aesthetic that captures our cessation of flight and transit into a noncontested existence."

That said, this year's festival was indeed an aesthetic that indeed transcended language. From the street style to the eccentric street art, to the procession of Ga chiefs, Chale Wote 2018 was the art enthusiast's paradise.

Some of the highlights of the festival includes: the Shika Shika Art fair, live painting, live performances, the President of Ghana's visit to the festival, Jamestown Weekend which involved music, art, partying at different locations on the streets of Accra. It even paid tribute to Durbar festival.
