Nollywood actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham has announced her next cinema release, Bestie, set to open in theatres nationwide on December 16.

Abraham shared the announcement on her social media pages, confirming the release date without disclosing further details about the film's plot or cast at this stage.

The announcement continues a pattern Abraham has kept up for several years running, using December, Nigeria's biggest cinema-going season, to release new work.

Her past December titles include Ijakumo: The Born Again Stripper (2022), Malaika (2023), which became her highest-grossing film at the time with over ₦300 million at the box office, and Alakada: Bad and Boujee (2024).

Most recently, her 2025 release, Oversabi Aunty, her directorial debut, crossed ₦1 billion at the box office, earning her recognition from the National Film and Video Censors Board as a box office champion.

Bestie's announcement comes weeks after fellow filmmaker Funke Akindele unveiled her own December project, The Four: No One Fights Alone, on August 10.

Akindele's film, which stars Richard Mofe-Damijo, Bisola Aiyeola, Chioma Akpotha, Timini Egbuson, Lateef Adedimeji and Waje, among others, is scheduled to premiere on December 11, five days ahead of Abraham's release.

Both films are set to open during what has already been a record-breaking year at the Nigerian box office, with FilmOne Entertainment distributing both titles.

Abraham's announcement follows closely on the heels of Alábọ̀sí 2, which she described as her final YouTube release for 2026, released in late July. At the time, she hinted that a cinema project was still to come before the year's end, a tease fans had speculated about in the weeks since.

As of the time of this report, Abraham has not released a trailer, cast list, or plot details for Bestie.
