<h2>Whether we like to admit it or not, the effects of bullying as far back as early childhood affects people in one way or another; and if not addressed properly, could be detrimental to a person’s self esteem or even lead to other negative behavioural activities such as substance abuse, depression or even violence.</h2>

Bullying is defined as unwanted aggressive behaviour that physically, verbally and emotionally inflicts pain and suffering on a person. It is a deliberate act and is repeated over a period of time by the same person at the same victim. Bullying comes in many forms and is prominent across generations.

Adult and workplace bullying are not foreign concepts in our social and professional environments.&nbsp;But like all things learned and acquired, it is best to recognise and address negative behaviours early, right from school age when children begin to form opinions of others and develop their characters.

Traditional <a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.pulse.ng/news/metro/viral-video-of-student-being-bullied-in-abuja-private-school-sparks-outrage/tqpbz0v">forms of bullying</a> include verbal, social and physical bullying. People within the same environment as the bully and the bullied can witness these in person. Some, however, ignore them because it is “not their business.”

Some are even of the opinion that a certain person deserves to be bullied. Others may actually not even be aware of the signs or the detrimental effects these behaviours have on human beings and may either not detect them or bother to address them.&nbsp;

It is extremely important to take note of <a data-link-role-code="open_new_tab" href="https://www.pulse.ng/lifestyle/relationships-weddings/is-your-child-being-bullied-watch-out-for-these-five-signs/ttrm2p8">the forms through which bullying occurs</a>.

This comes in the form of neglect, a child/group of children singling another child out of activities with their peers, discouraging other children from being friends with a child, spreading false rumours about another child and embarrassing another child in public.

This is probably the most obvious and comes in the form of hitting, kicking, spitting, pushing, rude body language/hand gestures, tripping, taking or breaking another child’s belongings.

This is gaining more and more attention globally. Cyber-bullying takes place over the internet, largely via social media. As many children now have social media accounts, it is very possible to take bullying away from the physical environment to the digital environment. Children (and even adults) are very conscious of their social footprint and status these days. In fact, they are almost obsessed with it.

Therefore any form of harm carried out on this space is equally as dangerous as the traditional forms of bullying. Unfortunately, this is an area which is more difficult to control due to the absence of physical restrictions over what a bully may say or do over the internet or even through chatrooms, WhatsApp or text messages.

The truth is that it is very difficult for parents, teachers and other children to detect bullying, particularly, when it is well disguised (which is made easy through digital media).&nbsp;However, there are some warning signs, through which we can tell if a child is being bullied. These include:

<ol><li>Fear of going to school or attending a particular class.</li><li>Frequent loss of specific belongings.</li><li>Physical injuries or unexplained bruises.</li><li>Nervousness.</li><li>Loss of confidence.</li><li>Withdrawal or distress.</li><li>Poor academic performance.</li><li>Eating disorders.</li><li>Sleeping disorders.</li><li>Torn books or clothes.</li><li>Bullying others (including retaliation).</li><li>Suicidal thoughts and attempts.</li></ol>

Furthermore, in the school environment, anti-bullying behaviour should also be encouraged amongst the children. Examples include:

<ol><li>Having a friendly expression on their faces.</li><li>Complimenting others.</li><li>Smiling more.</li><li>Laughing at other people’s jokes.</li><li>Being kind.</li><li>Involving everyone in activities.</li><li>Modesty.</li><li>Giving children equal opportunities to participate in school activities.</li></ol>

Teachers, parents and even children should be sufficiently enlightened about all signs of bullying, so that they can be addressed early before such behaviour evolves into negative social behaviour&nbsp;(for the bullies) or lead to mental or psychological issues (for the bullied).

Also, in general, we should really make a more conscious effort to become more aware of such behaviours in our environments and also the effect of our own behaviour on others around us.

Overtime, some studies have shown that the food we consume before bedtime could help aid us in getting to and staying asleep.

Who else is nuts about nuts? Pistachios, Almonds, Walnuts, Cashews etc have unsaturated fats that will not only boost your heart health but also improve your serotonin levels. Most of these nuts contain magnesium, a mineral which acts like a natural sedative. Even a small deficiency in magnesium can lead to trouble in the sleep department.

This is rich in sleep-inducing melatonin, vitamins, minerals and amino acids. It may be your go-to breakfast meal but if you need a good night’s rest, prepare a bowl and when mixed with milk and honey, it can make a very comforting bedtime snack.

Who knew that poultry would be a go-to recommendation for sleep? All poultry contains sleep-inducing tryptophan. Tryptophan is an amino acid that the brain uses to make serotonin and melatonin, hormones that calm and induce sleep.

Yoghurt contains calcium, which is needed for processing sleep-inducing hormones tryptophan and melatonin. If topped with nuts and/or bananas, you are sure to get a good night’s rest!

Honestly, any excuse to eat pizza is good! Though some people, especially the fit-fam crew, might disagree with this because pizza is known to contain high levels of fat.

However, even though pizza contains a high glycemic index, a slice just before bedtime has been known to help put one to sleep faster than normal.

The key is to not overeat! Research has shown that the large amounts of rice (high glycemic index) consumed in Japan are significantly&nbsp;associated with the good sleep&nbsp;that Japanese people have. High GI foods won’t get you in shape, but they might just let you enjoy some Japanese tranquility.

However, quite a number of Nigerians that initially went over to the Benin Republic to study returned back to Nigeria to restart their education after a year or two of study, and I am one of them,&nbsp;others graduated and ended up regretting wasting three years of their lives simply because they were ignorant of few facts.

With the stress of Jamb and Post UME,&nbsp;a lot of Nigerian students have decided to simply hop over to other countries to get their university degrees,&nbsp;and a popular choice is Benin Republic's private universities.

Probably due to the tempting three years of study as compared to the Nigerian four years minimum, the supposed 'cheap' education,&nbsp;the almost 24/7 power supply.

However, quite a number of Nigerians that initially went over to the Benin Republic to study returned back to Nigeria to restart their education after a year or two of study, and I am one of them,&nbsp;others graduated and ended up regretting wasting three years of their lives simply because they were ignorant of few facts. So I decided to create this list of five reasons why studying in the Benin Republic isn't the best option for you.

<h2>1. The Controversial Certificate</h2>

A lot of Nigerian graduates from Benin Republic private universities, find it hard to get a job in Nigeria after studying there, due to questionable standards. And they also have problems studying for higher degrees both In Nigeria and Other more developed countries.

I personally know of a girl that graduated from a Private university in Benin Republic and applied for a masters degree in the University of Lagos but was declined even though she supposedly had a Second Class Result.

Sure they'll preach to you how it's much cheaper than the Nigerian private universities, but if you calculate the very poor quality of education and structure possessed you'll realize you are paying for too much for far too little.

Even when the exchange rate was supposed to be Favorable to Nigerians, after changing your Naira to CEFA, I assure you'll be surprised at the terrible purchasing power of the CEFA.

Other than school fees, you'll have to pay either accommodation fee for a hostel that Is usually too expensive and crappy, or do what most of the students there do. Pay for a room, that is far too expensive seeing how you'll pay not just the room but a caution fee that you'll never get back.

One of the oddest things I saw in Benin Republic has got to be students coming into the second year directly without any special qualifications, merely paying about fifty thousand naira to some lecturer, or how students with barely three credits in their WAECs get admitted without any hitch.

They, the private universities, possessed very little education structure and what little they had was extremely fluid easy to be manipulated by just anyone.

You'll see quite a good number of students there, that 'transferred' from one university to the other without transcripts, and the student will have an admission letter that will portray the student has only ever being in that school and grades created and entered into the book for exams the person wasn't even in the school for.

One thing Almost every young Nigerian dream of is going to the university, making a lot of friends and in general be a part of a bustling university social community.

If these are your plans and you intend going to Benin Republic to study, I suggest you re-evaluate your plan. I know of several private universities there with about three People in a department.

A very populated department may have over thirty students, and a good percentage of these students are the ones that have 'transferred without transcripts' or the ones that 'skipped' classes. Not only are their demography nothing to write home about, the buildings are usually very small and reminiscent of a small JAMB tutorial center.

Sure they aren't South Africans, but they definitely have something against Nigerians. They seem to possess a general believe that Nigerians are 'Wealthy Thieves' and will go out of their way to cheat you, and generally, make life hard for you.

I remember once in School I can't remember what exactly happened but a Nigerian student was demanding his change from a Beninese and suddenly it turned into a Beninese against Nigerians free for all,&nbsp;several students got their head broken and got injured.

One thing with them is that while they also have really great and nice people, a good percentage of them believe we are here to steal from them,&nbsp;with good reasons, and as such, they endeavor to steal from us first.

I am writing this out of my personal experience studying at a Private University in Benin Republic, after which I had to leave to come back to Nigeria to study and I genuinely hope that this helps someone out there not to make the mistake that I almost made.

It is hard to think of MILO without thinking of sports and general physical activities. In fact, if you close your eyes and think of MILO, you can almost see a green jerseyed footballer or basketballer in your head. Of course, chances are you can also hear the famous clap.

If only there was a time machine to take us back! But thankfully, we don’t need to go back. MILO hasn’t just grown, it has evolved. The taste remains great and the content even more nutritious while the commitment to sports and physical activities today is stronger than ever.

In 1999 the first MILO Basketball Championship emerged attracting no less than 500 schools. Today, this number has rolled into more than 10,000 schools and the train is not slowing or stopping till every child is given a chance to be the best. MILO continues to strengthen efforts in making sure children from a young age are reaching their potential as they compete with each other thereby enjoying the benefits of physical and mental exercise.

While the effects of exercise on the body is obvious to see, competing in a team helps children develop a mindset, the champion mindset. This mindset is ultimately, what MILO stands for.

There is an African proverb that goes, ‘If you want to go fast, go alone, but if you want to go far, go together’. To find the truth in this, you only need to look at Nkechi Akashilli; a young Nigerian athlete we can all be proud of. She first fell in love with basketball from accompanying her elder sister, Sunnychi, to watch her play. Against all odds, she would grow up and unite with a team that will see her lead the pack to clinch victory in the 2009 All Nigerian Secondary School MILO tournament.

From winning the 2009 MILO title, doors would open for her to participate in the World Secondary Schools Championship representing Nigeria in Argentina. After competing on the world stage, a teenage Nkechi would come back from South America to Delta State where she joined the Delta Force team. In the space of only two seasons, she would be poached to play for First Deepwater in Lagos.

As you read this, conversations about Nkechi Akashili heading abroad to continue her sporting career is very much on the table. Truly, the journey of a thousand miles begins only with a step. In this case, that step was the MILO Basketball Championship.

Through the years, MILO has had only one goal: to change the lives of children across the country by instilling in them the core values of leadership, discipline, determination and teamwork. By creating and expanding this Basketball Championship, MILO hopes to continue developing champions by instilling these values.

This year is the landmark 20 anniversary of the MILO Secondary School Baskeball Championship. MILO continued in the tradition of excellence to empower future champions in Nigeria. On the 10th of May, a finale that saw champions in the male and female categories from the four conferences battle it out to win the highly coveted championship trophies was staged in the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

What ensued was a series of heated games ending with Father O’Connell Science College escaping yet again with the title of champion in a close game decided by a whisker’s breath of only one point against Gen. Murtala Muhammed College Yola, Adamawa State (60-59). On the ladies’ side, St. Jude’s Girls Secondary School, Yenagoa, Bayelsa State defeated Yejide Girls Grammar School, Ibadan, Oyo State with a wider margin of 23-15 also retaining their title as MILO basketball champions. All winners up to third place went away with congratulatory cash prizes and their heads held high.

The ever encouraging spectators were sure to have clapped their thanks to all participating schools and athletes. In these games, more than anything else, the spirit of competition and sportsmanship is what makes champions. Until next year when the tournament will hold again, players and spectators alike will be have to wait it out. The players will be working on their skills off and on the court, the spectators, savoring the memory of what was a monumental final.

However you want to look at it, the second clashing of heads between Father O'Connell Science College Minna, Niger State and Gen. Murtala Muhammed College Yola, Adamawa State in the MILO Basketball Championship finals was an affair for sweaty palms and racing hearts as we watched at the edges of our seats.

Last year, the teams had met in the semi-finals where the boys from Niger served up a clear defeat with a margin of 20 points. This time, the boys from Adamawa came ready for revenge. The previous champions would have to dig deep into their team spirit to hold their own on the court they once reigned supreme.

And if you thought were at the edge of our seats only for the male category, well think again. In another twist of fate, St. Jude’s Girls Secondary School, Amarata, Bayelsa State would meet their rivals from last year Yejide Girls Grammar School, Ibadan, Oyo State in the finals, again! We couldn’t have written this in a movie script! Words are simply not sufficient to describe the fire of passion ignited when champions with a history of encounter clash yet again in such a high stake game.

The Adamawa boys kicked off proceedings scoring the first point of the game after great defensive work. The Niger boys would not relent closing the first quarter with a 12-point lead.

Little into the third quarter, they bridged the gap and took the lead. The boys from Niger responded in kind, attacking off a rebound to level the score yet again before getting ahead with awarded free throws. They ended the third quarter with a 43-37 late lead.

The fourth quarter started with a lag from the Niger boys costing them many opportunities, but with another three points from Ibrahim of Adamawa, they were level again with just less than five minutes on the clock. In true Hollywood movie fashion, a needless foul by Ismailia of Adamawa gave Niger a free throw which they missed. Wait for it...would you believe that after that, they drew yet another foul to get yet another free throw.

This time, they would not miss it. For the rest of the game, they would protect the margin with their lives retaining the trophy they won in 2017 with 60 - 59 on the scoreboard. Spectators could just about remain seated as this heart wrenching final came to its ultimate conclusion.

For the Girl’s final, St. Jude's Girls Secondary School, Bayelsa State faced off with Yejide Girls Grammar School, Ibadan in the 2018 MILO Basketball Championship.

The girls from Bayelsa sprinted into a quick lead reeling off rebounds and countering to score some points. Victory would not be easy as the girls from Ibadan would not let them advance too far. By the time the first quarter was over, only a 6-point gap stood between the teams.

St. Jude's Girls started the second quarter in better spirits holding onto the ball but missing most of their shots in a bitter twist of fate. Yejide Girls would prove themselves efficient, making their opponents pay for their missed chances to extend their lead.

For the last two quarters, both teams would fall into a state of competitive parry with the girls from Ibadan making a comeback that was too little too late. The game ended at 23-15 in favour of St. Jude's Girls Secondary School of Bayelsa allowing them retain their title as MILO Basketball champions.

Although there are strong indications that this is a good move for Kodak, there are some harsh critics rising to share their opinions. Some are even accusing Kodak of starting a new cryptocurrency scam.

Perhaps most damaging for Kodak's case is the fact that several of its board members purchased derivative securities a single day before they made the announcement. It seems that they're preparing for the revenue sharing well in advance of its launch.

Is it possible that this is Kodak's desperate bid to save the company or is it a legitimate enterprise? Only time will tell. Lagos to witness the mother of all parties on Democracy Day

The first draws of First City Monument Bank’s (FCMB) latest bumper reward scheme, tagged, ‘ ’FCMB Millionaire Promo Season 5 ”, took place across Nigeria on May 23, 2018with the emergence of additional four customers of the Bank as millionaires.
