Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred after a tanker laden with petrol had a brake failure and hit the median of the Lagos-Ibadan expressway; the busiest expressway and gateway into the nation's commercial capital.

What followed was a bang and a stream of fire that immediately engulfed four lanes of chaotic traffic.

Ambode was at the scene to assess the extent of damage the fire caused and also to condole with victims.

Over 54 cars were burnt after a petrol tanker had a brake failure on the Otedola Bridge at Berger, then hit the median and exploded.

The fire ravaged the long line of cars in traffic.

Buhari said he is very sad to learn of the tragic loss of lives, tens of vehicles, property and other valuables in the petrol tanker fire.

"Sadly, this seems to be one of the greatest tragedies we have seen in recent times," the President said.

He condoled with the government and people of Lagos on the tragedy while urging emergency services and law enforcement officials to do their best to limit the losses and damage from the incident.

Buhari added that the priority now is to save those people who could still be in danger.

Nine persons have been confirmed dead so far but the death toll is said to be much higher than that.

According to Daily Post, the protesters first went around the major streets of Jos before heading to the seat of government to register their grievances to the state Governor, Simon Lalung.

<h1>The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has dismissed the bail application filed by convicted former governor of Taraba,</h1>

The ex-governor asked the court to release him from prison on medical grounds, pending determination of his appeal against his conviction.

But Justice Adebukola Banjoko, who had jailed Nyame, denied the bail application, ruling that it was  "unmeritorious."

The judge said bail is never granted to a convict as a matter of right but only under "exceptional circumstances," which could include ill health.

She, however, added that Nyame's application, although based on health grounds, did not provide any credible materials to warrant granting him bail.

In the application, the ex-governor claimed that he is being denied access to his traditional herbal medicine in prison. He said he was using the medicine to treat hypertension and diabetes before his conviction.

Nyame is currently serving 14-year jail term in Kuje prison, Abuja.

On May 30, 2018, Justice Banjoko convicted the ex-governor on corruption charges involving the diversion of over N1 billion belonging to Taraba State.

Justice Banjoko said bail is never granted to a convict as a matter of right but only under "exceptional circumstances" like ill health.

They were reportedly arrested by the special military task force - Operation Save Haven - at Gashish district in the Barkin Ladi local government area of the state, and they were paraded alongside 14 others on Wednesday, June 28.

The spokesman for the Taskforce, Umar Adams, said the suspects were arrested while they were clutching sophisticated riffles in the course of the attacks.

"We all know that some days back, some villages in Barkin Ladi were attacked and these three suspects were arrested in connection with that," he said.

"As our men were repelling the attacks in those areas we arrested these suspects with four riffles, three locally made guns and one AK47.

"The other 14 people were arrested in connection with civil unrest recently experienced in the state," the spokesman added.

On June 23, 2018, over 86 persons were killed in Razat, Ruku, Nyarr, Kura and Gana-Ropp villages of Gashish District in Barkin Ladi local government area of Plateau after herdsmen clashed with locals.

Since the beginning of the year, more than 700 persons have been killed by suspected herdsmen in the ethnically and religiously diverse middle belt region of the country.

Two of the suspects are said to be herdsmen and one Berom - one of the minority ethnic groups in Plateau.

He said his integrity is the reason he has not gone to jail after his previous appointments.

Buhari added that he did not award contracts nor cared about who got them as far as they did "a good job at a cost that is justifiable" to the nation.

"I am satisfied with what I am. I am happy. I have kept myself and people close to me from benefiting from government contracts".

"I have been in many places, including ministry of petroleum. I would have gone to jail if I had taken an oil well. For integrity and honesty, I have no regrets.

"By this, I have contributed to my social safety. I won’t go to jail", the President said.

Buhari also stated that his critics have accused him of many things but they cannot say he looted public funds.

"You cannot accuse me of stealing. I have appointed ministers and they are in charge. I appeal to their integrity.

"When they come here, we ensure they follow the due process. If I owned an oil well, I would have gone to jail", he said.

The vice-president of the council, Hadiyyatullahi Abdulrashid, commended Buhari for fulfilling most of his campaign promises.

He described the President as the captain of a capsizing ship and the messiah needed by the country.

Buhari said he did not award contracts nor cared about who got them as far as they did "a good job at a cost that is justifiable" to the nation.

'Nobody can accuse me of stealing,' President says

According to The Cable which cited a military source, suicide bombers sneaked into the barracks in a tricycle and detonated explosives at a relaxation spot.

"The attackers took advantage of the high influx into the mammy market as a result of the demolition of brothels in the city," the source said.

"The Borno state government has destroyed brothels in the city centre, people now troop to the barracks which is still full of life. The suicide bombers sneaked in and struck within the crowd."

Many people were said to have been killed in the attack while scores of others sustained injuries. The wounded persons have been evacuated to the Maiduguri Specialist Hospital.

"I cannot ascertain the number of dead people. We all ran for our dear life," he said.

The attack comes four days after 31 people were killed while 84 sustained injuries in multiple suicide attacks in Damboa local government area of Borno.

The terrorists were said to have sneaked into the barracks in a tricycle and detonated the explosives strapped to their bodies.

<h1>The House of Representatives has replied President</h1>

Buhari signed the appropriation bill on Wednesday, June 20, as he lamented the changes the National Assembly made to the original budget proposals.

The President had tendered an N8.6 trillion 2018 budget before a joint session of the national assembly on November 7, 2017.

However, after lawmakers were done with the budget, the appropriation bill had been increased to the tune of N508billion and the national assembly budget had been increased to N139billion (from N125billion in the 2017 budget).

The lawmakers also slashed the capital expenditure estimates before the document was transmitted to the president for assent.

"The national assembly made cuts amounting to N347 billion in the allocations to 4,700 projects submitted to them for consideration and introduced 6,403 projects of their own amounting to N578 billion. Many of the projects cut are critical and may be difficult, if not impossible, to implement with the reduced allocation. Some of the new projects inserted by the national assembly have not been properly conceptualized, designed and costed and will, therefore, be difficult to execute," Buhari said during the budget signing at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He disclosed that he would send a supplementary budget.

The House of Representatives, however, said the alterations made to the 2018 budget were justifiable.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the spokesman for the lower legislative chamber, AbdulRazak Namdas, said the National Assembly "has a job to do".

He also blamed the delay in the implementation of the January-to-December budget cycle on heads of ministries, department and agencies (MDAs).

He said, "The house of representatives is appreciative of President Muhammadu Buhari in signing the 2018 Appropriation Bill into law and wish to make the following observations.

"That the budget is usually a proposal by the executive to the national assembly, which the latter is given the constitutional power of appropriation to alter, make additions, costs or reduce as it may deem necessary. The Legislature is not expected to be a rubber-stamp by simply approving the Executive proposals and returning the budget to Mr. President. Therefore, the additions Mr. President complained of in his speech are justifiable.

"We are on the same page with Mr. President in his desire to return our budget cycle to January-December. By the provisions of the Fiscal Responsibility Act, 2007, the budget estimates should be with the national assembly around September of the year. In the case of the 2018 budget, the estimates came behind schedule in November 2017, even though this attempt was seen as one of the earliest in recent years. Going forward, we urge the executive to speed up the reporting time to the National Assembly by complying fully with the FRA.

"Besides, there were delays that should be blamed on the heads of MDAs. Mr. President will recall that he had to direct ministers and heads of agencies to go to the National Assembly to defend their proposals. This came after the National Assembly had persistently raised the alarm over the non-cooperative attitudes of these government officials. On this grounds, the delay in passing the budget cannot be blamed on the legislature.

"New projects in budget. On this aspect, we have to remind Mr. President that we are representatives of our people and wish to state that even the common man deserves a mention in the budget by including projects that will directly affect his life positively. Some of the projects designed by the executive, as high-sounding as their names suggest, do not meet the needs of the common man."

Namdas also justified the N14.5 billion increase in the budget of the national assembly, saying the lawmakers slashed their budget compared to 2015.

"Before 2015, the budget of the national assembly was N150 billion for several years. It was cut down to N120bn in 2015 and further down to N115bn in 2016. In 2017, the budget was N125bn and N139.5bn in 2018. This means that the budget of the national assembly is still far below the N150bn in the years before 2015.

"While we commend Mr. President for a good working relationship, we also wish to state that we have a job to do, which requires adequate funding as well. The additional costs and projects to the budget were done in good faith for the sole purpose of improving the lives of Nigerians", the spokesman said.

He added that the National Assembly will welcome Buhari's proposal to forward a supplementary budget to it in order to look into the other grey areas of pressing demands.

The National Assembly also justified the N14.5 billion increase in its budget, saying the lawmakers even slashed their budget compared to 2015.

National Assembly replies President, justifies changes made to 2018 budget

Buhari's spokesman, Femi Adesina, had told journalists last week that the President will sign the budget this week.

The report said the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting this Wednesday may not hold due to the budget signing and Public holidays of Friday and Monday.

The Presidency received the appropriation bill from the National Assembly on May 25 after it was signed by the lawmakers.

Buhari presented the budget proposal of N8.612 trillion to the lawmakers earlier in 2017 but the National Assembly increased it by N508billion bringing it to N9.12 trillion.

While presenting the budget, Buhari had noted that the Appropriation Bill will consolidate on the achievements of the previous budget and that 2018 is expected to be a year of better outcomes.

President to sign 2018 Budget on Wednesday

Shittu had declared his intention to run for governor in the state in 2019 and has accused Ajimobi of being desperate to stop him.

But Ajimobi said he has nothing against the minister. He, however, insisted that Shittu does not have the qualities to be a governor.

Both Ajimobi and Shiitu are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Governor made the statement while speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Monday, June 18.

"He (Shittu) doesn’t have what it takes to be a governor. I have been a governor now for seven years. I know the qualities of someone who should be a governor; he doesn’t have it. His temperament cannot be that of a governor", Ajimobi said.

According to him, a governor must have some sense of decorum and should have proven his expertise in his chosen field.

"I was an oil and gas man. I rose to the peak of my career as a managing director," he said, stressing that he did not work for just any company but rose through the ranks to become MD of a subsidiary of Shell Petroleum.

"Not only in Nigeria but outside Nigeria. I was chief executive of Shell (Petroleum) companies outside Nigeria," he added.

The governor said he does not have anything personal against Shittu, adding that his stance about the minister's incapability to be a governor is just the facts.

"If you behave unconventionally and I say you behave unconventionally, is that derogatory? I have nothing against him, to be honest. I just like people to have decorum, I like people with style," he said.

When asked if he thought President Muhammadu Buhari would have appointed Shiitu as a minister if he truly lacks leadership qualities, he said the APC in Oyo was against the appointment.

"The party didn’t support the nomination," he said.

However, Ajimobi believes that it would be up to the people of Oyo State to decide who would govern them should Shittu become a governorship candidate after the APC primaries.

Ajimobi said Shiitu's behaviour conduct is not befitting of a governor or an aspiring one for that matter.

'Shittu lacks the qualities of a governor', Oyo Gov says

The report said Segev was indicted on suspicion of spying for Iran.

A statement issued on Monday, June 18, by the Shin Bet security service said Segev, who was Israel's energy minister from 1995 to 1996, "was recruited by Iranian intelligence and served as an agent".

According to Reuters, the security service said it discovered that Segev made contact with officials at the Iranian embassy in Nigeria in 2012.

Segev was said to have been jailed in Israel in 2004 after being convicted of attempting to smuggle Ecstasy pills. He reportedly left the country in 2007.

The former minister, who "visited Iran twice for meetings with his handlers", reportedly received an encrypted communications system from Iranian agents.

He was accused of supplying Iran with "information related to the energy sector, security sites in Israel and officials in political and security institutions."

The Shin Bet security service also said that the former Israeli minister introduced some stakeholders in Israel's security sector to Iranian intelligence agents, as businessmen.

However, a statement quoted Segev's attorneys as saying that most of the information regarding the indictment remains a secret, as requested by the state.

Israel's security service said it discovered that Segev made contact with officials at the Iranian embassy in Nigeria in 2012.

Ahmed made the call on Sunday, June 17, when the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, paid the annual Sallah homage to the Government House.
