Since 1973 graduates of universities and later polytechnics have been required to take part in the NYSC program for one year.
There is a uniform salary ( alawee) paid to the corps members by the Federal Government, but state Governments also provide some NYSC 'alawee'Â to those posted to their regions.
In some states, the allowances of the NYSC members differ based on their course of study, with medical corp members usually favoured.

Ezekiel Enejeta of Financial Watch Nigeria provide a list of 26 states across Nigeria and the allowance paid to corpers.
These numbers are however, subject to regular change by the Federal and State governments.
