Novak Djokovic is under no illusion as to the size of the task awaiting him in Wednesday's mouth-watering French Open quarter-final showdown with Rafael Nadal.

Djokovic sealed a blockbuster clash with defending champion Nadal by cruising past home favourite Richard Gasquet 6-1 6-2 6-3 at Roland Garros.

The world number one has been in imperious form in 2015 having won his last 26 matches, and is bidding to complete a career Grand Slam in Paris.

But following his fourth-round win over Jack Sock, nine-time champion Nadal boasts a scarcely believable 70-1 record at Roland Garros - with his sole defeat coming to Robin Soderling in 2009.

Nadal has eliminated Djokovic from the French in each of the last three years, and the Serb feels Wednesday's meeting represents "the biggest possible challenge for me on clay".

However, he is confident after producing what he described as his "best match so far in the tournament" against Gasquet.

And when asked if he felt in peak condition heading into the match with Nadal, the 28-year-old replied: "Yes I am. I've won many tournaments and matches this year, I still haven't lost on clay courts and now of course it's the match everybody anticipated.

"It's a big quarter-final, but I couldn't ask for a better lead up to the match."
