Chelsea technical director resigns from club after 10 years

Emenalo leaves his post as technical director of Chelsea after 10 years at the club.

Emenalo first joined Chelsea in 2007 as an opposition scout from where he made worked his way up to the post of the technical director.

The former Nigerian international who was one of Roman Abramovich’s trusted men at the club had been the Technical director at the club since 2011.

The Nigerian was very influential at the club, supporting the work of the first team management, leading the club's international and domestic scouting network and assisting in driving the technical programmes of Chelsea Academy and international youth network.

“This has been a very difficult decision to make, but one I believe is right for both myself and my family, and the club,” Emenalo said in a statement on Chelsea website.

“I have had the privilege to work alongside some of the most talented people in the world of sport over the past 10 years, and I will depart incredibly proud of the achievements we have made.

“I wish Chelsea every success and look forward to following the club’s future triumphs from afar.”

Emenalo oversaw one of the most successful eras of Chelsea as they won three Premier League titles, three FA Cups, the League Cup, Europa League and the Champions League in 2012.

Although there have been reports that Emenalo is leaving because of a row with Chelsea manager Antonio Conte, the Italian coach said in a statement that he is sad to see the former Nigeria international leave.

“I am very sorry to see Michael leave Chelsea, and I would like to thank him for all his help and support since I arrived at this club,” Conte said.

“I have enjoyed working with him very much, we celebrated a Premier League title together in May, and I wish him the very best for the future.”
