Nigeria’s women's U-20 get N5M for win over Tanzania

A Lilian Tule opener and Rasheedat Ajibade’s brace gave the Falconets a 3-0 win over Tanzania at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City on Saturday, September 16.

After the win, the Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki rewarded the girls with a N5m cash gift.

The gift was announced to the girls at a dinner hosted by Godwin Obaseki at the Banquet Hall of the Edo State Government House in Benin.

According to the governor, the N5m is to motivate the girls ahead of the second leg in Dar-es-Salaam.

“Certainly, we hope to hosts the Falconets again. This is the first time in a long while we are hosting a national team,” Obaseki said.

“Edo state government believe in engaging youths through sports and hosting the girls will encourage other young ones to emulate them by building their talents.

“The standard of the match was very high and simply incredible. I was very impressed with the pace, style and accuracy of our girls.

“Certainly, they can see they are much better side – just that they need to be a lot more confident, stable and definitely, they are going to win in Tanzania.

“The donation is a token of support from the state government to the players for making us proud beating Tanzania and motivate them to win the second leg. We will be happy to welcome more teams in Benin.”

The Falconets second leg against Tanzania will be played on Saturday, September 30 in Dar es Salaam and aggregate winners of the tie will take on either Morocco or Senegal in the next round of qualifiers.
