Ezekwesili compares President to trespassing masquerade as he announces 2nd term bid

Former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili, has compared President Muhammadu Buhari to a trespassing masquerade who doesnt know when to stop after the president announced his bid to run for second term.

President Buhari ended months of speculation after he officially announced his intention to seek re-election in the 2019 presidential election during a meeting with the National Executive Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday, April 9, 2018.

A lot of public reactions has trailed his announcement and Dr Ezekwesili believes it's going to spell the end of the president's reign as the nation's leader as well as the end of a "decadent political class."

The former minister took to her official Twitter account(‏@obyezeks) on Monday to warn the president that Nigerians will vote him out in next year's election.

She posted, "There was a masquerade which in a burst of Hubris left its own village & strayed into a neighboring town. The neighbors gave it the beating of a lifetime, it barely survived. Asked some months later if it would go again, it replied: I have not recovered from my 1st journey!

"Reading the Breaking News that our President will be seeking reelection in 2019, I remembered the story of the “Ejionu” masquerade. Our President has not yet recovered from his first journey and here he is UNLIKE the very wise Ejionu, seeking to embark on a second one.

"The very nice thing about the "Breaking News" is that at least Citizens now officially know that it is to President Muhammadu Buhari that we shall personally hand APC's own portion of the Red Card to APC and PDP. 2019 is surely the Year of The Office Of The Citizen.

"Citizens are totally tired of the cyclical leadership and governance failures. 2019 is the year that the Office Of The Citizen shall take centre-stage in our land and reset leadership criteria. You can scream as much as you like, but it shall surely come to pass."

President Buhari made history when he defeated then-president, Goodluck Jonathan, in the 2015 presidential election by more than 2.5 million votes, the first time a sitting president lost an election in Nigeria.

He is expected to face a tougher test this time around as he has had to battle health complications that resulted in him seeking treatment for an undisclosed ailment for a combined 154 days in London in 2017.

The 75-year-old has also recently come under heavy criticism from past Nigerian leaders, most notably former president, Olusegun Obasanjo, and former Head of State, Ibrahim Babangida, who had both advised him to not seek reelection.
